Waymo launches transit rewards program to encourage public transport integration

Waymo has introduced a new rewards program designed to incentivize the integration of robotaxi rides with public transit in the San Francisco Bay Area. By linking a Visa card to the Waymo app, riders who complete a Waymo trip and a public transit journey within a two-hour window will receive $2.85 in 'Waymo Cash,' equivalent to the cost of a standard bus fare. The program, which is currently available to employees and will soon open to the public, involves over two dozen local transit agencies. Additionally, Waymo is securing parking spots at Caltrain stations to facilitate easier connections for commuters. The initiative aims to support public transportation rather than replace it, a goal supported by local officials. Waymo reports that half of its current ridership already utilizes public transit, and this program seeks to further increase those numbers by making regional travel more seamless.
