Gallup poll reveals widespread global AI optimism, not doom and gloom

A new Gallup-Microsoft survey reveals that global sentiment toward artificial intelligence is largely optimistic, with positive emotions outweighing negative ones in 34 of the 37 countries surveyed. Curiosity emerged as the most common reaction, while worry was the primary negative sentiment. Notably, the United States, Egypt, and Palestine were exceptions to this trend, with the U.S. reporting particularly high levels of anxiety regarding the technology. The study highlights a significant divide between optimism and usage; many respondents in countries like Nigeria express high hopes for AI despite low personal usage rates. While optimism is widespread, trust in AI accuracy remains low globally, with only a few nations showing majority confidence in AI-provided information. Interestingly, the data suggests that daily users of AI tend to be less worried and more trusting of the technology than those who have never interacted with it.
