Fujifilm Launches 40TB LTO-10 Tape Cartridges for Enterprise Archival

Fujifilm has released its new LTO-10 Ultrium tape cartridges, designed for large-scale enterprise data centers and long-term archival needs. Each cartridge offers 40TB of native capacity, which can expand to 100TB with 2.5:1 compression. Utilizing Barium Ferrite particle technology, these tapes provide enhanced magnetic stability and an archival lifespan of up to 30 years. The cartridges support uncompressed transfer speeds of 440MB/s, reaching up to 1,100MB/s with compression, outperforming many enterprise SATA hard drives. The media also features AES-256 encryption for enhanced security. Currently priced at $494, these cartridges are intended for organizations managing massive volumes of cold storage. While the format requires specific LTO-10 compatible hardware, it remains a cost-effective and highly reliable solution for disaster recovery and data preservation, offering significantly higher bit-error reliability than traditional spinning disk storage.
