Microsoft sets 2029 expiration for Internet Explorer mode in Edge

Microsoft has issued a reminder to IT administrators that Internet Explorer (IE) mode in the Edge browser will be supported until at least the end of 2029. IE mode currently serves as the final bridge for organizations relying on legacy applications built for the Trident rendering engine. While the standalone Internet Explorer 11 browser was retired in 2022, this compatibility feature within Edge has allowed businesses to maintain access to older internal software. Microsoft is advising organizations to begin planning migrations now, noting that they will provide at least one year of notice before the final end-of-support date. This move marks the final phase of a long-term transition away from legacy web technologies. Companies that do not rely on IE-specific dependencies are unaffected by this update, while those that do are encouraged to identify and replace their legacy software to ensure future operational continuity.
