Xteink announces S4 Android-based e-reader, currently exclusive to China

Xteink has unveiled the S4, a new compact e-reader that marks a significant shift for the company by moving from a proprietary Linux system to Android 11. This transition allows users to install third-party applications like Kindle and Kobo, addressing long-standing complaints regarding the brand's limited file support. The S4 features a 4.3-inch E Ink touchscreen with 220 ppi, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a new adjustable front light. It also upgrades connectivity with a USB-C port. While the device offers improved functionality, including cross-device progress syncing via Wi-Fi, it is currently limited to the Chinese market. Preorders are available in China for approximately $50 USD. Xteink has not yet provided a timeline for a potential release in the United States, where consumers must currently rely on older Linux-based models.
