Volvo upgrades battery capacity for 2028 XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrids

Volvo has unveiled refreshed versions of its popular XC60 and XC90 SUVs, focusing primarily on significant powertrain improvements. The most notable update is a new plug-in hybrid system that more than doubles the real-world electric range compared to previous models. While exterior styling changes remain subtle, including updated 'Thor’s Hammer' matrix LED headlights and a revised front grille, the interior receives a modern boost. Both models now feature an 11.2-inch infotainment display powered by Android Automotive OS, which integrates a new Gemini-based personal assistant for improved conversational voice control. Additionally, Volvo has introduced a new ventilated leather interior option. These updates aim to maintain the competitive edge of the XC60, which has surpassed 2.7 million units sold globally, and the flagship XC90, as Volvo continues to refine its electrified vehicle lineup for the 2028 model year.
