UK tech workers: do you want to join a trade union?

Meta has reached a landmark agreement to grant the Prospect trade union direct access to its 5,000 employees in the UK. This development marks a significant shift in the tech sector, where organized labor has historically struggled to gain a foothold. The agreement allows Prospect to engage directly with staff regarding the benefits of union membership. This move coincides with upcoming legislative changes in the UK that will establish new statutory rights for unions to access workplaces and communicate with employees. Prospect’s general secretary, Mike Clancy, highlighted the growing importance of the tech sector to the UK economy and the historical lack of an organized voice for its workforce. In light of these changes, The Guardian is soliciting feedback from UK tech workers—including those in warehouses, data centers, and AI firms—to understand their perspectives, experiences, and interest in joining a trade union.
