UK government unveils £7.8 billion 'refreshed approach to space' strategy

The British government has launched a comprehensive UK Space Strategy, backed by a £7.8 billion investment through 2030, aimed at reindustrializing the nation and enhancing its orbital capabilities. The initiative integrates scientific research, satellite communications, and defense programs to secure the UK's position in an increasingly competitive space sector. Key funding allocations include £880 million for space-based intelligence and surveillance, £2.8 billion for Low Earth Orbit connectivity and SKYNET defense communications, and support for the European Space Agency’s Vigil mission. The strategy also prioritizes infrastructure development, such as the SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland, and scientific exploration projects like the Rosalind Franklin Mars Rover.
