The UK’s cheapest EV just got bigger, faster and smarter — but the sub-£18k Dacia Spring could still lose its cut-price crown

Dacia has announced a major overhaul for its Spring electric vehicle, promising a larger 27.5kWh battery, increased range of 155 miles, and a more powerful motor. Built on a new platform shared with the Renault Twingo, the updated model features a more spacious interior, improved cargo capacity, and advanced cabin technology, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless connectivity. While the new Spring is expected to retail for under £18,000, Dacia faces stiff competition in the budget EV market. With Chinese manufacturer Leapmotor currently offering the T03 at a lower price point, the Dacia Spring may struggle to retain its title as the UK's cheapest electric car. The new model, which includes enhanced safety features and faster charging capabilities, is set to arrive in showrooms next year, potentially offering a more robust and capable alternative to its predecessor despite the likely increase in price.
