Tesla sales drop 2 percent in underwhelming Q3 2026

Tesla reported sales of 486,532 electric vehicles for the third quarter of 2026, marking a 2.1 percent decline compared to the same period in 2025. Despite the year-on-year drop, the company's performance surpassed analyst expectations of 456,600 units, which had predicted a steeper 8 percent decline. Interestingly, Tesla increased its total production by 3.7 percent, manufacturing 464,391 vehicles. The bulk of this output consisted of the Model 3 and Model Y, which saw a 4.9 percent production increase. Conversely, production of other models, including the Cybertruck, Semi, and Cybercab, fell by 39.8 percent. With the retirement of the Model S and X, the company is shifting its focus toward its mass-market offerings. Following the announcement, Tesla's stock price saw an uptick, as investors reacted positively to the company outperforming the more pessimistic market forecasts despite the overall volume decrease.
