Teachers express concern as AI adoption outpaces classroom regulation

A recent survey by Epson involving 3,360 participants across Europe reveals a significant divide between student AI usage and teacher preparedness. While 87% of students are already utilizing AI for schoolwork, 80% of educators report concerns regarding the rapid integration of these tools into the classroom. The research highlights that 68% of teachers believe AI negatively impacts learning, yet 76% of students expect to incorporate it into their studies. With the EU AI Act now in effect, there is an urgent call for standardized AI literacy training. The findings indicate that 82% of teachers are seeking better guidance on overseeing student AI use, while 78% want training to integrate the technology into their own administrative workflows. Experts suggest that rather than attempting to block AI, schools should focus on fostering uniquely human skills like critical thinking and creativity to prepare students for an AI-driven future.
