Consciousness as a property of living matter to organize information about its own structure

In this article, the author proposes a new perspective on the nature of consciousness, moving away from traditional computational models that view the brain primarily as a predictive machine. Instead of focusing solely on predicting the external world, the author argues that consciousness is a fundamental property of all living matter. The core principle lies in organizing information about the organism's own structure: living systems evaluate incoming signals based on memory of past states and proactively adjust their biochemistry to achieve desired outcomes. In this framework, consciousness is not generated by the brain as a standalone organ, but is an evolutionary mechanism for managing information flows. Human consciousness is viewed merely as a species-specific form of this universal process. This approach offers a fresh take on the 'hard problem of consciousness,' shifting the focus from purely computational operations to the biological necessity and self-organization of living systems.
