Protecting Dynamic Industrial Robot Cable Carriers

Tsubaki KabelSchlepp has introduced the Robotrax System, a specialized three-dimensional cable carrier designed to protect electrical, fiber optic, and pneumatic lines on high-speed, six-axis industrial robots. As robot arms perform complex maneuvers, they often experience mechanical stress that leads to cable fatigue and production downtime. The Robotrax system addresses this by utilizing a central steel cable within each chain link to absorb high tensile loads, isolating internal lines from pulling forces. The system features a spherical link design that allows for three-axis flexibility and radial rotation of up to ±450 degrees. Additionally, the company offers a Pull Back Unit (PBU) that acts as an active retraction mechanism, maintaining optimal tension to prevent cable loops from colliding with the robot body. These innovations aim to extend the service life of robotic components while ensuring reliable performance in demanding automated manufacturing environments.
