OriginTrace: Protecting the DEV Community from Content Theft using Sanity Context MCP

OriginTrace is a new AI-powered tool designed to help developers identify and combat content theft. Created for the Sanity Challenge, the platform scans the web for unauthorized copies of articles posted on DEV.to. Using a multi-signal NLP engine, it analyzes word overlap and structural similarities to detect plagiarism. The project leverages Sanity’s Content Lake and the Context MCP (Model Context Protocol) to store and query provenance data, allowing users to interact with an AI agent that provides actionable insights. The agent can determine if a repost is a legitimate syndication or an unattributed theft, and even draft DMCA takedown notices. By structuring provenance records as typed JSON documents, OriginTrace enables precise, context-aware analysis that goes beyond simple keyword matching. The project is currently a functional prototype, with future plans to include user authentication, multi-platform support, and automated monitoring to protect content creators across the web.
