OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna Models with Improved Efficiency

OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 lineup with the release of two new models, Sol and Luna. Positioned as more cost-efficient and less resource-intensive alternatives to the previously launched GPT-6 Astra, these models are designed for professional tasks including coding, factuality, and computer automation. According to OpenAI, Sol and Luna offer significant performance gains, including a 50 percent reduction in factual errors compared to their 5.6 predecessors. Pricing has also been adjusted, with Sol priced at $2 per million input tokens and Luna at $0.10, representing a 50 percent cost decrease. The models are currently available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Business, and Edu customers via Work and Codex platforms. While Luna is accessible to free users on the desktop app, neither model is currently available in the basic ChatGPT interface. These releases underscore OpenAI's ongoing efforts to balance high-level performance with operational affordability.
