OpenAI Engineer Arrested for Planting Secret Recording Device

OpenAI has confirmed that a sophisticated recording device was discovered in one of its San Francisco offices. The device was planted by Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old OpenAI engineer who has since been arrested by the FBI and terminated by the company. Prosecutors allege that Alfozan installed the device behind a television in an executive conference room where sensitive technical and strategic discussions frequently occur. The device was wrapped in toilet paper and discovered shortly after installation. OpenAI utilized its own AI models to analyze the hardware and determine its origin. The company stated that there is currently no evidence that sensitive data, such as model weights or source code, was compromised. Alfozan faces federal charges for the unauthorized interception of oral communications, which could result in a five-year prison sentence and significant fines if he is convicted.
