Sony has released a new software update, version 7.1.7, for the PlayStation Portal, aimed at preserving the device's long-term battery health. The update introduces a default charging cap of 80%, a measure designed to prevent the degradation associated with full-capacity charging. While users retain the ability to override this setting and charge to 100% via the system menu, Sony explicitly warns that exceeding the 80% threshold may negatively impact battery performance, overall system stability, and the device's longevity. In addition to the battery management features, the patch includes general performance and stability improvements, as well as minor usability enhancements for various interface screens. Sony also advises users to ensure their PlayStation Link devices are updated to the latest firmware to maintain compatibility with the handheld console.
