Developer Juan Dastic has expanded his remote development workflow by adding a dedicated macOS node to his home lab. Previously relying on a Linux tower for backend tasks and a MacBook Air for mobile development, Dastic purchased a used M4 Pro MacBook Pro with 48 GB of RAM to handle iOS builds, simulator testing, and AI-driven computer use. By keeping the device in a vertical stand at home, he can delegate complex tasks—such as testing cross-platform app flows—to an autonomous agent. He uses Screen Sharing to monitor progress or inspect results, while the agent continues working independently even when the connection is closed. This setup allows him to offload resource-intensive tasks from his portable laptop, enabling more efficient development cycles. Additionally, the extra memory on the new machine provides him with the capacity to experiment with local AI inference, further enhancing his automated development environment.
