Most powerful obesity drug yet: People lost up to 25% of weight in trial

A late-stage clinical trial for the experimental obesity drug retatrutide has yielded record-breaking results. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study of 2,339 participants across 11 countries showed that patients on the highest dose lost an average of 25 percent of their body weight after 80 weeks, increasing to 30 percent after 104 weeks. Beyond weight loss, the drug demonstrated significant health improvements, including a 62 percent reduction in knee pain for those with osteoarthritis and a 57 percent decrease in sleep apnea events. Furthermore, over 90 percent of participants with prediabetes saw their condition resolve during the trial. The drug also positively impacted cardiometabolic markers, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels. With these findings, retatrutide is being hailed as potentially the most effective pharmacological intervention for obesity to date, marking a major milestone in metabolic health research.
