Military milestone: Ukrainian naval drone sinks Russian kamikaze drone boat

In a significant development for naval warfare, a Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessel (USV) successfully intercepted and destroyed a Russian explosive drone boat in the Black Sea. The engagement, which occurred on September 12, marks the first recorded instance of a drone-on-drone battle at sea. Ukrainian Defense Intelligence identified the target as a Russian Orcan USV, a jet-ski-style vessel designed for ramming and detonation. The Ukrainian drone utilized a remote-controlled machine gun turret to neutralize the threat. Naval analyst HI Sutton noted that these Russian drones often operate in coordination with aerial reconnaissance assets, such as Geran drones, to enhance communication and targeting.
