Microsoft releases emergency Windows 11 update to fix Patch Tuesday bugs

Microsoft has issued an emergency, out-of-band update (KB5129194) for Windows 11 version 26H1, just one week after its September Patch Tuesday release. The initial September update addressed 966 flaws, including two actively exploited zero-day vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-81963 and CVE-2026-85880) that allowed attackers to gain system privileges. However, the update introduced new technical issues, including instability in Remote Desktop Services, malfunctions in certain USB audio devices, and problems with Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines. While the new cumulative patch resolves many of these regressions, some USB Audio Class 1.0 issues persist. Microsoft continues to work on further fixes for these remaining audio problems. Cybersecurity experts note that the increasing volume of patches is partly due to AI-assisted vulnerability discovery, a trend Microsoft has acknowledged as a factor in the growing number of security fixes required in modern operating system releases.
