IEEE Workshops Empower African Researchers to Publish Technical Work

IEEE has launched a series of educational workshops in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda to help local researchers and students overcome barriers to publishing in international scientific journals. Despite the availability of the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, many technologists in these regions struggle with the academic publishing process, including methodology and submission standards. To address this, IEEE volunteers and staff conducted training sessions for over 120 participants, covering peer-review processes, research integrity, and effective use of IEEE resources. Facilitators, including local experts like Mayur Kumar Chhipa, emphasized the importance of transitioning from conference presentations to journal publications to increase global visibility. By providing these tools and knowledge, IEEE aims to integrate African researchers into the global technical conversation, helping them advance their academic careers and ensure their work reaches a wider audience rather than remaining confined to local university libraries.
