IEEE Announces Major Restructuring of Geographic Regions

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is moving forward with a significant reorganization of its global geographic regions, scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2028. The realignment involves merging the current Region 1 and Region 2 into a single entity covering the Northeastern and Eastern United States. Additionally, the current Region 10, which represents the Asia-Pacific area, will be split into two distinct regions: a new Region 10 for North Asia and a new Region 11 for South Asia and the Pacific. IEEE’s Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) department is currently managing the transition, focusing on governance updates, financial restructuring, and election logistics. Despite these structural changes, the organization has confirmed that individual member status, as well as local section and chapter affiliations, will remain unaffected. Members with inquiries regarding the transition are encouraged to contact the dedicated support team.
