HANDOFF: Give the Appliance. Pass on the Know-How.

HANDOFF is a new open-source project designed to bridge the knowledge gap for donated and refurbished appliances. Created for the 'Weekend Challenge: Generosity Edition,' the tool allows refurbishers to record a short voice note explaining how to use a specific machine. Using ElevenLabs' Voice Isolation and Dubbing v2, the platform cleans the audio, translates it into the recipient's language, and generates both a voice file and a readable transcript. The system then creates a durable QR code that can be attached to the appliance, ensuring the recipient has access to the technician's specific instructions without needing an account or app. Built with Next.js, React, and Vercel Blob, the project focuses on accessibility and physical-world utility, ensuring that the knowledge gained during the repair process travels with the item to its new home, making the act of giving more effective and inclusive.
