Google signs billion-dollar deal to expand nuclear power capacity at multiple US plants

Google has announced a significant 20-year partnership with Constellation Energy to increase nuclear power generation across the United States. The agreement aims to support the growing energy demands of Google's AI-driven data centers by upgrading existing nuclear facilities rather than constructing new ones. This initiative is expected to deliver 890MW of additional power to the PJM Interconnection grid by 2032, with the first upgrades coming online in 2028. Constellation Energy plans to invest over $4.3 billion into the project, which will enhance grid resilience and provide clean energy to the broader network. Amanda Peterson Corio, Google's Global Head of Data Center Energy, noted that this deal brings the company's total enabled nuclear capacity to over 1.5GW. While the energy will support Google's infrastructure growth, the project also promises to create construction jobs and contribute to a more stable and abundant energy supply for millions of US citizens.
