GiveRoute: A Need-First Approach to Donation Logistics

Developer Sreejit has introduced GiveRoute, an open-source platform designed to optimize donation logistics by prioritizing community needs over donor convenience. Built for the 'Weekend Challenge: Generosity Edition,' the application addresses the common issue of shelters receiving unneeded items while critical supplies remain scarce. GiveRoute utilizes a deterministic 8-factor matching engine to rank donations based on urgency, category, and location, effectively preventing surplus waste. The stack includes React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and a Supabase backend with Row-Level Security. Additionally, the project integrates Google Gemini to normalize unstructured donation offers into structured data, streamlining communication between donors and aid organizations. By replacing vanity metrics with a public impact ledger and verifiable receipts, GiveRoute provides a transparent, data-driven solution for humanitarian supply chain management. The project is currently available on GitHub for community contribution and deployment.
