Fool's Theory discusses the narrative challenges of balancing Dandelion and Geralt in The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past

CD Projekt Red and Fool's Theory have shared insights into the development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's final expansion, Songs of the Past. In an interview at Gamescom, CEO Jakub Rokosz and senior quest designer Despoina Anetaki explained that the primary narrative challenge was centering the story on Dandelion without overshadowing the protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. The team spent significant time refining this balance to ensure the expansion feels like a personal journey for the bard while maintaining the core identity of the game. Additionally, the developers addressed the pressure of following the legacy of previous expansions like Blood and Wine. They emphasized that this pressure serves as motivation to improve their craft, including advancements in cinematics, nonlinear storytelling, and technical performance. The expansion aims to provide a definitive conclusion to the Wild Hunt saga by giving Dandelion the spotlight he deserves.
