Fake GTA 6 malware is on the rise as release date nears

Security researchers at Huntress have issued a warning regarding a surge in malicious software disguised as installers for the highly anticipated game Grand Theft Auto 6. With the official release scheduled for November 19, 2026, threat actors are leveraging SEO poisoning and fake forum posts to distribute ISO files that contain remote access trojans, infostealers, and ransomware. These malicious packages often mimic legitimate game files, sometimes reaching sizes of over 100GB to appear authentic. Once installed, the malware may display fake error messages in Russian, prompting users to contact a support email for a non-existent 'crack.' Experts emphasize that there is currently no playable version of the game available to the public. Users are strongly advised to avoid pirated downloads and to rely on official sources. Those who have already installed these files should immediately disconnect their systems from the network, perform a full reimage, and reset all compromised credentials.
