Effort begins to fill the void left by terminated US climate report

Following the Trump administration's decision to defund the US Global Change Research Program and halt the National Climate Assessment, scientific organizations are taking independent action. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) have launched the "US Climate Collection," a centralized resource designed to preserve and compile climate research that would have otherwise been lost. Unlike traditional government-led reports, this initiative invites researchers to publish peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals, which are then indexed for future use. The first major contribution, authored by 175 scientists, serves as a roadmap for prioritizing future climate data. This collaborative effort ensures that critical environmental information remains accessible to the public and future policymakers, effectively bypassing the political barriers that led to the termination of the official federal assessment process.
