Discord has officially launched a new age verification system designed to protect teenage users. Following previous backlash regarding facial recognition and ID uploads, the platform is now using an automated model to estimate user age based on account history, community participation, and connected services. Discord claims this model is highly accurate, noting that 90 percent of users will experience no changes. For those requiring manual verification, the company has introduced alternative methods, such as credit card authorization, app store age range sharing, and AgeKey credentials, avoiding the need for invasive identity documents. While adult users remain unaffected, teenage accounts will face stricter safety protections, including restricted access to age-gated content and enhanced messaging filters. This rollout follows legislative requirements in regions like Texas and reflects Discord's broader strategy to proactively comply with emerging global age-verification regulations while addressing user privacy concerns.
