Dell quietly raises prices on XPS 13 laptop amid global component shortages

Dell has implemented a quiet price increase for its entry-level XPS 13 laptop, raising costs by $100 and reducing storage capacity for the base model. The entry-level configuration now offers 256GB of storage for $699.99, down from the previous 512GB. These adjustments follow a broader trend in the PC industry, often dubbed "RAMageddon," where the rapid expansion of AI data centers has created a global shortage of essential components like RAM and SSD storage chips. Consequently, Dell has also increased prices across its XPS 14 and 16 lines, as well as its 14S and 16S models. This move aligns Dell’s pricing more closely with Apple’s MacBook Neo, which also saw a $100 price hike earlier this summer. As component costs remain high, manufacturers are struggling to maintain budget-friendly pricing while navigating intense competition in the laptop market.
