Cloudflare plans to issue quantum-safe TLS certificates

Cloudflare has announced plans to provide quantum-safe TLS certificates, positioning itself as a leader in preparing internet infrastructure for the post-quantum era. By utilizing an open-source platform, the company will offer hybrid certificates that combine classic TLS with Merkle Tree-based post-quantum cryptography. These certificates will be available at no cost to all users, regardless of their subscription status. To facilitate this transition, Cloudflare is acquiring a trusted certificate root from CA GlobalSign, aiming to enable seamless, high-performance encryption across the web. This initiative addresses the critical need for quantum-resistant signatures that can function within existing transparency logs and browser ecosystems. While the transition to a post-quantum web infrastructure is expected to take years and require broad industry collaboration, Cloudflare’s move represents a significant step in securing digital communications against future quantum computing threats.
