Apple announces two new AirPods 5 models at iPhone launch event

Apple has officially unveiled the AirPods 5 during its "Surprise and Shine" keynote event. The new lineup introduces two distinct models, both featuring active noise cancellation (ANC), a significant upgrade from the previous generation. The base model is priced at $129, while the premium version costs $149 and includes a wireless charging case compatible with Apple Watch, Qi, and USB-C chargers. Key technical improvements include 50% better noise cancellation, updated adaptive EQ for enhanced spatial audio, and improved transparency mode. Additionally, the higher-tier model introduces force sensor volume controls on the earbud stem, a first for non-Pro AirPods. These earbuds offer up to five hours of battery life with ANC enabled and are available for preorder now, with a scheduled release date of September 18. Despite rising costs across other Apple product lines, the company has managed to maintain competitive pricing for this latest audio hardware release.
